indeterminate
Indeterminate growth is when a plant continues to grow throughout its life. Such plants don’t have a predetermined size and will keep producing new shoots, leaves and flowers so long as growing conditions allow. Gardeners usually come across the term in relation to tomato plants – indeterminate tomato varieties (which are the most common) need to be supported by a line and have their side shoots removed to avoid excessive vegetative, or ‘bushy’, growth.
